Little Blue Green Bedside Table

Last weekend we found this little table at the local Vintage Market.

This little bedside table is very well built, so it was a great find.

I keep finding items is this dark color.  Don't like the color but love the shape and the little drawer at the bottom is so adorable.

I plan to paint the table white to match the bed in the guest room.  Change out the drawer knob and line the drawer with scrapbook papers. 

For me this table's distressing is too much.  So the first thing I did was paint all the edges where the wood is revealed black.  That way when I do my light distressing some of the black will show through instead of raw the wood.

Here you can see the new knob I was trying out.  I think it is a keeper.

I have the first coat of white paint dry and am ready to start the second coat. I have temporarily put square thumbtacks on the bottom of the legs.  This makes it easier to paint and not have the legs stick to the paper beneath on the table while I am painting.

All dry, lightly distressed, and new knob added.

I added a little vintage style postcard to the lower shelf with Mod Podge.  It is all waxed, I will let it set overnight and buff.

Here is a  peek at the inside of the drawer.  I lined it with it with scrapbook paper and gave it a coat of Mod Podge to protect the paper.

Garden Butterfly

This poor little butterfly spent the winter in the garden and ended up with quite a coat of rust.  You can barely see it in front of the carpet in my studio.  It used to be so pretty I couldn't bring myself to just throw it away.

Time to repaint and refresh for the summer.

Again I painted the entire piece white to seal it and give me a nice base to add color.

Here is the close up of the butterfly painted shades of blue, green and lavender with a touch of orange.  I used Martha Stewart Metallic Pearl paints.

The feathers I painted green, blue and lavender.  It is all refinished and hanging on the patio.

Hidden Compartment Stack of Books

You might remember last December I bought this piece at thrift store on half price Saturday.

It was pretty beat up and the colors where all wrong for me.

The front book swings open to reveal a hidden area with two hooks.

Nice piece but again awful colors for my decor and lots of nicks and scrapes.

The first thing I did was paint the entire piece white.

Then I had to decide what color to paint the individual books.  I choose a soft gray for the outer books and pink for the front, aqua for the bottom book.  I also stenciled a few designs on the different books when the paint was dry.  Then I sanded to distress the stencils and edges.

All of the page areas I painted with a combination of tan and white to simulate paper pages.

Next I added pieces of lace and pearls with my hot glue gun and printed a vintage girl's picture for inside the frame.

Glass Door Knob Wall Hook

I have such a weakness for vintage glass door knobs.  In my first house I changed all the cabinet knobs out for vintage glass knobs.  I love the older homes with glass knobs on the doors, too.

The real vintage ones are so expensive nowadays I have to go for reproductions, now.

I spotted this wall hook at Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day on the half price table. I loved the look but not the color,  

I decided to paint the black metal white and the wood a aqua and white for a distressed looked.

This was a quick redo.

Out came the chalk paint.  I painted the metal portion white then distressed it when dry, next I painted the wood portion with the aqua and then went over that with white before distressing.

That's it.  I let it dry, waxed the entire piece, let the wax dry overnight.  And in the morning I buffed it to a nice sheen.

Crystal Necklace

Here are the crystals that I laid out before stringing.

I love the pastel and white crystals for summer.

And here is a close up of the focal beads.

I strung the crystals on beading wire and added a magnetic clasp to the back of the necklace.

Vintage Market Finds

Made a few pretty finds at the vintage market last weekend.  One booth especially had great prices.  The weather was warm but at least we had a nice breeze blowing.  The fair was held outside under trees.  Great venue and great fun.

I love depression era and before glass.

Here are this weeks finds.

This three footed bowl is so pretty.  I have been collecting this pattern for quite some time.  Hoping to  collect enough to set a pretty soon.

 These smaller dishes would be perfect for olives or pickles.

This plate is different, flat with the center divider.  And I love the little bone china boot from Europe.

But my favorite find of the weekend was this bowl to match my grandmother's punch bowl she received as a wedding present around 1900.  Best if all it was only $12.00.

Found one more item.  Last week we bought a beautiful trundle bed from Pottery Barns Kids on Craigslist for our guest room.  It is painted white which was perfect for my decor.  But I didn't have a night table to put along side the bed.  Found the perfect one, except for the color, which will be easy to fix.  Stay tuned for the transformation coming soon.
