What to do With a Single Glass Candle Holder

What can you do with all those, oh so pretty, single glass candle holders at the Thrift Stores?  Or did you break one of your favorite candle holders and just have one left.  Don't toss it out or give away, Make a battery operated candle holder with it.

Find yourself a single candle holder and a single glass light shade and make a fast, easy Holiday battery operated light you can put almost anywhere.  In the window, in a curio cabinet, on a table where you don't have electricity, in the bath to set the mood for guests or in a china cabinet.

Here is what I used for mine.  A glass candle holder, glass shade, battery operated candle (taper or tea light),  small green wreath, Tacky Wax, a few red berries and some red ribbon for a bow.

Adhere your tacky wax or museum wax in several places around the top of the candle holder and gently but firmly adhere your shade.  If you want to make a permanent light you can attach the glass shade with E6000.

Wire a few red berries to your wreath and tie a bow with your ribbon.  Add your choice of battery candle.  That's it, your done.

So easy and so fast with a great big festive Holiday look.  Make two or more and add to your table centerpiece.

Great last minute decoration.

Christmas Shovel Repainted

It was about this time last year that I bought this decorative shovel at an estate sale.  It took awhile but I finally decided how I wanted to repaint it.

It was OK, but I wanted it to be more whimsical.

Here is what I began with.

I used 3 colors of acrylic paint, orange, black and green plus black and white chalk paint.

I like to use paper plates for my paint palate.  A lot of the time I can let it dry completely when I am done and just peel it off the plate and use it again.

The first thing I did was to paint the metal portion black and let it dry.

Next I added the shape of the snowman's face with white chalk paint leaving the edges a little feathered and let that dry.  I applied a pretty thick coat to give it some texture.

I painted the nose on the raised area of the shovel with orange and added black eyes and mouth.

At the top I painted greenery on each side of the head with the green paint.

Next I tied a red snowflake ribbon to the top of his head.

And added faux snow to the greenery and the face.

And here he is all dressed for the Christmas season.

Upcycled Christmas Tag Box

If you saw last week's post about my Christmas Journal then you know I used Christmas tags on the pages and had one leftover.

I decided to make a small vignette ornament out of the leftover box the tags came in and use the one remaining tag.

This box was just too cute to toss away.

The first thing I did was to cover the inside of the box with red polka dot paper.  Then I attached the one remaining tag to the box by glueing several small pieces of foam core board cut smaller than the tag and stacked to lift the tag off the back of the box.

I positioned Santa so he would show through the window on the frond of the box.

I cut the fireplace and Christmas tree to fit in the background and added a piece of Christmas greenery at the bottom.

Next I placed a battery operated tea light in the upper right corner to light the interior of the box.

Then I cut not quite square pieces of paper to form shingles for the roof of the box and glued them in place at the top front of the box in 2 rows.

I cut a Christmas sign from paper and glued that above the window,  and some holly below the window.  For the snow I used some white dimensional paint and sprinkled a combination of clear tinsel style glitter and some fairy dust glitter.  Then highlighted the holly and berries with red and green Stickles.

The back side I covered with large polka dot paper glued on a gold wreath from my stash then another Santa.

Here you can see the tea light lighting the interior of the box.  The box came with a ribbon on the top so this ornament can also be hung.

And here is how it will look on a shelf lit and ready for Christmas.

Christmas Pillows in July

This is a quick easy craft for Christmas.  Still laying low trying to avoid the 107 degrees outside.  Thank goodness for Air Conditioner.

A couple of months ago I spotted these pillow covers on Amazon.  They were priced under $5.00.

I immediately thought of Christmas when I saw them.  So last week I ordered the pair of them for my sofa this Christmas.

  I thought they were really cute but knew I was going to add a little embellishment to them.

I gathered some red and green ribbons and a couple of Christmas picks and attached them to the deers antlers.

And here they are ready to be stuffed with pillow forms this winter.

Tiny Mini Christmas Album

I had the empty container from a bronzer that I used during the summer.

I thought the container was just too cute to toss away. It has a little door and window on the front and one on the back.  Then it hit me, perfect for a tiny Christmas album, the color was a perfect red already.

On the spine I glued a paper sticker with a handle image.

Inside the front window I added a square of Christmas scrapbook paper.  Then a little red acetate house image , some green bling rhinestones and on a dimensional  glue dot I use a punched out 1' Santa image.

Made a little tab to  pull the album pages out from the box.

And here are the front of the album pages ready to be filled.

 

The back side is red and white stripe.  There are 7 little pages waiting for pictures from Christmas.
