Recycled Toilet Paper Roll Bird Houses

More Spring Decorations.

I saw something like this on Pinterest.  But instead of birdhouses those where Christmas Castle Ornaments.  I wanted to make Spring Birdhouses to hang from my mantle.

Here is a rough sketch of the measurements for the birdhouses. Cut 12 small circles and 6 large circles to make 12 birdhouses.  Each large circle is cut in half and rolled into a cone shaped roof.  Plus you will need 12 toilet paper rolls cut to 2 5/8 inches in height.

I started out with a dozen toilet paper rolls and cut them down to 2 5/8" in height.

Then I cut a dozen 2 1/4" circles, with scissors,  from a very light weight corrugated cardboard for the bases.

Next I cut a dozen 41/2" circles from card stock for the roofs.

I cut a small circle in the side of each paper roll with a small paper punch and hot glued each roll to the base.

Next I cut a piece of vintage music to fit the sides of the little houses and used Mod Podge to adhere the the paper.  I also appliedd Mod Podge to the inside top edge and folded the music paper to the inside.

For the roof I made yarn hangers and hot glued them to the inside of each half circle and rolled and glued the half circle to form the cone shaped roof.

Then used hot glue to attach the roof to each birdhouse.

After the glue was dry I used Mod  Podge to coat the top of the bases and covered them with silver glitter.

 Then I used 6 colors of glitter, 2 birdhouse in each color, to coat the roof of each house.  I also used hot glue to attach a tiny bird to coordinate with each roof color.

I really love the Spring colors of each of the roofs.  I decorate with a lot of birds and leaves and vines.  I have tables and shelves and lamps each in the leaf and branch theme.  These will fit right in with the rest of the decor around the house.

These could also be made into Christmas ornaments depending on the colors used in the roof and by adding a holly sprig or pine branch to each house.

Glittered Light Switch Plate

I was at the Restore a few weeks ago and found this gorgeous beveled glass framed mirror for $15.00 for my main bath room.

I just loved the distressed gold appearance.

I have been seeing a lot of glittered light switch covers on Pinterest lately. While I was combing my hair this morning I looked at my light switch and it was so WHITE!

That's when I decided to glitter that plate.

I chose to used 2 colors of glitter to match the frame better.

I used the Smoky Quartz first and the Antique Silver for the second color.  It gives the piece a gold silver finish.

I began with a liberal coat of Mod Podge to cover the entire switch plate.  Then sprinkled the entire piece with the Smoky Quartz glitter.   I set that dry.  And then applied another light coat of Mod Podge and sprinkled on the Antique Quartz.  

When both colors were dry I applied a liberal coat of Mod Podge to seal the glitter and keep it from shedding off on everything.  Then let that coat dry.  It looks terrible at this stage until the Coat of Mod Podge is dry but won't worry it will dry clear.

And don't forget to glitter the screws, also.  Making sure to leave the slot open to screw back into the wall.

All dry and ready to reinstall on the switch.

The screws blend in nicely and are barely noticeable from any distance.

Glittered Dollar Store Wine Glass Pumpkin

Today I decided to create a new pair of Fall candle holders.

Awhile back I purchased a pair of plain clear glass wine glasses from the Dollar Store to make a pair of candleholders for Fall.

Here are the supplies I began with, several shades and sizes of orange and green glitter, a fall faux leaf and a piece of twine.

Using my good old do everything Mod Podge I liberally coated the bulb of the glass and began by sprinkling the chunky glitter in a few spots then added the other two colors of fine glitter to cover the entire bulb of the glass.

I like the way the two different kinds of glitter add extra sparkle and texture.

Letting that dry I next did the same for the stem, starting with the chunky green glitter and finishing with the fine glitter to cover the entire stem.

Next using hot glue I attached a faux fall leaf and tied a piece of twine into a bow around the stem.

When dry I placed a candle on top. 

If I was planning to light the candle I would place a glass votive holder before burning the candle and place the candle inside the votive holder.

The pair would look nice on a Fall table or mantel.  Just a little bling for the season.
