Here are my goodies I found at today's vintage market.
This piece came complete with decorations. I plan to use it as a vase.
This little car is a bank. I plan to make a
Christmas car with it.
Love the shape of this little tea light holder, but not the color, so I added a bit of white colored paint and a crystal.
I also found another little tea light holder in the shape of a crown.
And a couple of angel shaped cookie cutters. I added a white ribbon to make a hanger with hot glue, some string pearls glued into a circle for a halo and edged each cutter with silver Stickles. I plan to hang these on the little tree I have in my kitchen.
Well, it is finally beginning to feel like Christmas. The tree is up and the house is decorated.
Later in the week I am having an outdoor plug installed for the lights outside. Then my decorating will be finished. I have always had to run and extension cord around the house in past years. It will be so good to have a plug at the front of the house for seasonal decorating.
This is the piece of a birdcage I bought a few weeks ago at the vintage market.
I used a dry brush technique and lightly painted the cage white leaving some of the rusty finish showing through. Next I added some small icicle trim to the top edge and a string of battery operated white lights.
I placed it on top on my vintage trunk and used it as a surround for my Christmas tree. It helps keep my kitty off the tree, too.
This year's theme for the tree is pink and gold with French accents. It is only a 4 foot tree but makes a big look atop the trunk and nearly reaches the ceiling.
I made all the French accent pieces like the crown on top and the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
I have so many plans for this birdcage throughout the year. Each season I plan to change it's look.
We all know what a hectic time of year this is. And our household it's no different, except, we are in the middle of some major house repairs and updates. We seem to have repairman and people giving estimates coming and going.
So I will try to keep up on this blog as often as possible, but not daily until after the New Year. Hopefully by then things will have calmed down and gotten back to normal.
I really want to enjoy the Holidays despite all the added confusion and fuss.
Luckily, I have finished my Christmas shopping. I hope your Season is running much more smoothly than mine.
Now I need to wrap packages and address cards and get them all in the mail.
All I can say to you all is BREATHE, and enjoy the season.
I have been listening to these guys for quite awhile. And have had tickets to their concert for a couple months anxiously waiting for their arrival.
I must say this was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. These guys are an acapella group with amazing voices. And they create sounds like there is a band with them, truly amazing.
We drove a couple of hours to where they where preforming, the weather was perfect and the sunset as we drove south was oh so pretty.
The venue where the concert was held was pretty amazing, too. So welcoming and comfortable. And I don't think there was a bad seat in the house.
The lobby was dressed for Christmas.
This was their Christmas concert but I would defiantly go to see any of their concerts.
At one point after the intermission they stopped the concert, struck a pose, and said now is your chance to take photos. Everyone whipped out their phones and snapped away.
Tim Foust, second from the right has one of the deepest bass voices I have ever heard. His voice is so low it is almost painful at times. But I love it.
If you like to hear great voices check out their videos on You Tube.
They like to take a picture with their audiences, too.
And there we are standing just to the right of the staircase in the back.
They have great senses of humor and for their encore they came out in ugly Christmas sweaters and a reindeer suit and of course just had to sing their version of "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer", while the audience laughed away.
I decided I wanted a silver and gold star burst for my front window.
I began by covering a piece of white foam core board, I cut into an 8" circle, with my choice of wrapping paper.
Next I cut a piece of wrapping paper about 2 inches larger all around. Then I cut tabs around the paper and glued that to my board.
Then I covered the tabbed side with a second circle of paper to cover the tabs and glued that in place.
I was lucky enough to have a grid on the back of my wrapping paper which made cutting my paper strips really easy.
I began with strips cut 8 inches long. All the strips are 4 inches wide.
I rolled each strip into an 8" cylinder and glued the seam. I glued the cylinders around the edge of my circle slightly overlapping the edges.
Here is the first row completed. Each remaining row was cut one inch shorter. First row 4" by 8".
Second row 4" by 7", Third 4" by 6". Deducting 1" for each row down to 4" by 3" for the last row.
First row
2nd row
3rd row
2nd to last row
After the last row I made 4 gold glittered ribbon loops plus a smaller one for the center and glued them to the center.
I hung it on my door to take the picture. There was way too much glare to get a picture with it hanging on the window. It ended up being about 20 inches wide.
It took me a little over an hour to complete and cost pennies to make. Big statement for very little money.
You could use any color or pattern of wrapping paper you have on hand to match your holiday decor.
Make sure your paper is heavy enough to fall and not tear as you work with it. A good quality paper works best.
